Proud History of Success
Mission Springs Water District has successfully and solely managed groundwater for the greater Desert Hot Springs community since 1953.
Local control of our groundwater is critical because it means that our community remains in control of our destiny – our water, our economic growth, our future.
But that future is threatened…
Local Control Seized by DWA
The state Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) requires local agencies to serve as the Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) to manage groundwater within their boundaries.
Despite protests and numerous meeting requests from MSWD and the City of Desert Hot Springs, Desert Water Agency unilaterally elected itself to be the exclusive GSA controlling the groundwater basins serving Desert Hot Springs and the surrounding community.
Threat to Desert Hot Springs
DWA, whose board oversees its own retail water service in Palm Springs, now has the authority to dictate if, when, where and how much water MSWD can pump to serve Desert Hot Springs, now and in the future.
This not only threatens MSWD’s ability to serve our customers, but also threatens the future growth and prosperity of Desert Hot Springs. Local control must be protected, particularly for disadvantaged communities like Desert Hot Springs
MSWD has taken legal action as we fight to preserve local control for Desert Hot Springs and to ensure that we can continue to provide our customers with the reliable, award-winning water they have come to expect from MSWD.
